How to Configure Your Project and Redirect Rules

Learn how to set up redirect rules for dynamic links in your Grovs project.

Redirect rules control where users land when they click your Grovs links. This guide covers how to configure redirects for each platform, set up your domain, and customize social media previews.

Any changes to your redirect configuration apply to all links -- past, present, and future -- including those generated by the SDKs. This ensures all links follow your latest marketing strategy.

Redirect Rules

1

Set a fallback URL

The fallback URL acts as a backup when no specific redirect rule is set for a platform. Without it, you cannot save your redirect settings.

A fallback URL is required. This is typically your website homepage or another relevant landing page.

2

Configure mobile redirects

Set platform-specific redirect behavior for iOS and Android:

Option A: Redirect to a web page

Enter a URL in the Android Redirect URL field. All Android users will be sent to that page. Useful if you don't have an Android app yet.

Option B: Redirect to your app

Toggle the Android App Redirect button. When a user clicks the link:

  1. App installed -- The app opens automatically with deep link parameters (promo codes, landing pages, etc.).
  2. App not installed -- Redirect users to the Google Play Store, a third-party store, or a webpage.

Preview page options:

GoalRecommended Option
Add user confirmation step / brandingShow Preview Page
Maximize speed and engagementSkip Preview Page (recommended for Android)

Showing the preview page displays an intermediate screen with your app name, logo, and an "Open" button. This can improve redirect reliability across various Android browsers. Skipping it attempts to open the app directly via deep linking for a faster experience.

3

Configure desktop redirects

By default, desktop users see a Grovs-generated page containing a QR code and download links for your app.

To send desktop users directly to your website instead, enter a custom URL in the desktop redirect field.

4

Save your configuration

Click Save to apply your redirect rules. All links (past and future) will follow these updated rules.

Domain

By default, Grovs assigns a subdomain for your links. You can change it by picking a new subdomain.

Changing your subdomain will break all previously generated links, as they were tied to the old subdomain. Avoid this if you have active campaigns.

Social Media Previews

When a link is shared on social media (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, etc.), a preview is generated with an image, title, and subtitle.

You can customize these defaults by uploading a custom image and editing the title and subtitle. These can also be overridden on a per-link basis -- for example, using a holiday theme for a seasonal promotion link.
